What Counts As Community Service Hours
Any community service performed through your church, sports team or community organization counts toward the Community Service award as long as it’s a genuine service activity performed to help others – over and above your regular participation.
For example, if you play in the Pentucket Jazz Combo, your regular concerts and performances do
not
count as community service. However, if the Combo provides entertainment for a community fundraising event (like the Middle School Turkey Trot or Boys Club Auction), that
does
count as community service. If your sports team picks up litter on the field before your home event, that does
not
count. However, if your team spends a Saturday helping a town’s youth team clean up and line their field, that
does
count as community service. If you sing in your church choir, that does
not
count. However, if you participate in a church drive to collect clothes and food for those in need, that
does
count.
If you work at a summer camp as a CIT and do not get paid because this is part of the process for getting full time paid work the next summer, this does
not
count as community service.
If you’re confused, ask Mrs. Collins or one of the parents at our Wednesday Community Service table in the cafeteria.
